One topic my friends and I come back to again and again is how New York doesn't have a proper electronic music festival. Detroit has DEMF. Montreal has Mutek. Europe has too many to name. But now, finally, New York has something!
Electric Zoo will be a 2-day, electronic/dance music event happening Labor Day weekend on Randall's Island. While I was at first a bit leery of the initial line-up, more and more acts (like Busy P, DJ Mehdi, and Tiga!!) have been revealed over the past few weeks and it looks to be a great weekend of electronic music and getting down outside (not to mention the closest thing New York's ever had to a proper electronic music festival). More acts are to be announced over the next month, but the current line-up along with more info is below:
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 5th
Armin van Buuren
Chus & Ceballos
Mark Ernestus (Rhythm & Sound)*
featuring Milton Henry*
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 6th
Special Disco Version featuring
James Murphy & Pat Mahoney
Felix Martin & Al Doyle (HOT CHIP) DJ Set*
Andy Butler (Hercules & Love Affair)
Guy Gerber - Live
Menno De Jong
The festival will take place from 12 noon until 11pm each day, and will happen across 4 stages in Randall's Island Park.
General admission single day tickets are $55 each, or $100 if you buy a ticket for both days.
VIP tickets are $120 per day, or $225 for both days. VIP passes include a separate VIP entrance, access to VIP lounge with private cash bar, exclusive viewing area at main stage, and access to VIP-only deluxe bathrooms.
Tickets are available here and everything you need to know about Electric Zoo is on the website. Also be sure to follow Electric Zoo on Twitter for info on what some of artists appearing at Electric Zoo have been up to lately, plus opportunities to win tickets to the festival. Mark your calendars...this should be awesome!!
